Cedar Salve, 1oz
The cedar that we know and love here in Ontario, the Eastern Red Cedar, is actually not a true Cedar but a member of the Juniper family. I love them so much and find them so beautiful-- their reddish brown bark that peels off in long strips down the trunk, the smell of their evergreen foliage (hands down one of my favourite smells on the planet). Cedar is sweet, grounding, protective. Working with cedar is one of the many ways of deepening our connection to the land and ancestral memory.
Grandmother Cedar is a sacred medicine for the Anishnaabe peoples, and it is one of the Four Sacred Medicines on the medicine wheel.
What's Inside?
Eastern Red Cedar infused organic extra virgin olive oil, raw Canadian beeswax
*this particular batch is made from cedar gathered by Noa and I! Foliage was removed from branches that had fallen in a storm, and we also collected leaves that fell naturally from the trees-- Cedar should be mindfully harvested ensuring the trees ability to regenerate*
Working with this salve
The primary intention behind this salve is to use it for ritual-- to call upon her {Cedar} for protection against negative emotions and unseen forces that may be working against you. To call upon the wisdom of the elders, your ancestors, to remind you to slow down, rest, and ground yourself.
The salve can be applied to pulse points, to the heart, hands, etc. with this intention. It can also be applied before ceremony.
Cedar possesses a mildly astringent and tonifying quality, so topical use may provide a tightening or toning of the skin. It may be helpful to apply to congested or oily areas of the skin.
Extra note about my oils and salves :)
None of my skincare or topical herbal oil products contain any fragrances or even essential oils. I create all of my oils with plants in their whole form, and I do this intentionally. The beautiful depth that plants carry comes from their wholeness-- they are complete beings with layers of aroma, energy, and supportive qualities. Whole-plant infusions allow all of those elements to come through, creating oils that feel more grounded, balanced, and true to the plant itself. If I was to extract the essential oil from the Cedar it would have a much more pronounced smell, but this salve is more subtle.
